College football bowl season is upon us and the expansion of the College Football Playoff will give us a handful of high-profile matchups during the first week of the postseason.
Four first-round games will take place this week, with Notre Dame already knocking off Indiana on Friday. Penn State vs. SMU, Texas vs. Clemson and Ohio State vs. Tennessee all take place on Saturday. The latest college football odds for Week 1 of bowl season list Penn State as an 8-point favorite, Texas (-13.5) and Ohio State (-7) all favored. So how should you be handling those matchups and the rest of the college football bowl schedule?
Before making any college football picks for the first full week of bowl season, be sure to check out the college football score predictions from the SportsLine AI PickBot.
Built using cutting-edge artificial intelligence and machine learning techniques by SportsLine's Data Science team, AI Predictions and AI Ratings are generated for each game. The AI predictions are determined by statistically learning from each team's historical data then quantitatively evaluating the strength of the opponents defense by assigning a numeric value out of 100 called a matchup score.
Once a prediction is formulated, the AI rating is generated using the prediction, the matchup score, and the odds of the market. For example, you could see a 5-star rating on an Over bet if a team is facing a poor defense, their prediction differs from the line and there are favorable odds.
In addition, SportsLine AI is the first fully automated predictive model at SportsLine. It continuously refreshes on the most recent available data and can help you spot the biggest discrepancies in the lines. SportsLine's AI PickBot has nailed 2,131 4.5- and 5-star NFL prop picks since the start of last season! Anyone who has followed it is WAY UP!
Now, it has turned its attention to the latest college football odds (see the latest college football lines for each matchup this week on our college football odds page), simulated every single play for every bowl game through Dec. 21, and the results are in.
We can tell you the AI PickBot likes No. 16 Clemson (+13.5, 50.5) to cover comfortably against No. 3 Texas in a first-round matchup of the College Football Playoff. The Tigers are coming off a win over SMU in the ACC Championship Game to earn their way into the 12-team playoff field. Quarterback Cade Klubnik threw for 262 yards and four touchdowns in the victory, which concluded with a 56-yard field goal as time expired to give Clemson the 34-31 victory. Meanwhile, Texas is coming off its second loss of the season to Georgia in the SEC Championship Game. AI PickBot ranks the Tigers to cover as a B pick, but does predict the Longhorns win 29-25 on average.
The AI PickBot has also made exact score predictions in every other FBS matchup, including another six B-rated spread picks!
