As one of the NFL's most prominent and long-running franchises in a major market, the Chicago Bears are regularly a topic of conversation. That remains the case on the precipice of the 2023 season, as the Bears are coming off a highly disappointing 2022 campaign and aiming to make considerable strides. Chicago finished the 2022 season on the longest losing streak in the league, dropping the final ten games in succession, though the Bears have plenty of room for optimism as a young team with talent.

The biggest name for Chicago is quarterback Justin Fields, who will enter his third season as the primary starter for the club. Fields started ten games as a rookie in 2021 before 15 starts in 2022, and he is a dynamic athlete with the ball in his hands. That was evidenced by his 1,143 rushing yards and eight rushing touchdowns during his sophomore campaign, and Fields' ability as a dual-threat option unlocks the offense for the Bears. With that said, Chicago's passing game was arguably the least potent in the sport last season, leaving the Bears to make a substantial investment on the outside.

The Bears made a splash in adding intriguing wide receiver D.J. Moore to the proceedings for the 2023 season. Moore showed tremendous upside in Carolina, and Chicago is also hoping for an uptick in production from its offensive line. No team threw for fewer yards or averaged fewer net yards per attempt than Chicago a year ago, but with Fields' development and Moore's arrival, there is room for optimism.

On the defensive side, the Bears will also look to improve on a group that finished dead last in allowing 463 points in 17 games. Chicago's offensive shortcomings made life difficult on its defense, but the Bears violently struggled in run defense, yielding more than 2,600 rushing yards to opponents. With opponents scoring 2.45 points per possession against Chicago, it is fair to say the Bears need to make significant strides on both sides to live up to the optimism that is baked into the team's 2023 projection.
