Some of the PGA Tour's top stars will be back in action when the World Wide Technology Championship at Mayakoba tees off Thursday at El Camaleon Golf Course. The field in Playa del Carmen, Mexico is headlined by world No. 2 Scottie Scheffler, and the likes of Collin Morikawa, Viktor Hovland and Tony Finau also are part of the field. Hovland is seeking his third straight Mayakoba victory after going 23 under to beat Carlos Ortiz by four strokes last year.

Scheffler is the 9-1 favorite, with Hovland right behind at 10-1, in the latest 2022 World Wide Technology Championship odds. Finau (14-1), Billy Horschel (16-1), Aaron Wise (16-1), Maverick McNealy (18-1) and Morikawa (20-1) also are among the favorites in the World Wide Technology Championship 2022 field.

Before you lock in any 2022 World Wide Technology Championship picks, be sure you check out the PGA Tour predictions and best bets from golf insider Patrick McDonald.

After spending time at FanSided and NBC Sports EDGE, McDonald joined CBS Sports as a golf writer in the spring of 2022. Now covering the sport from a broader perspective, McDonald still likes to dip his toes into the betting pools on a weekly basis on the PGA Tour.

He takes a measured approach to his outright selections and finished the 2021-22 season up 42 units on those plays, having hit Cameron Smith (22-1) at the Tournament of Champions, Hudson Swafford (250-1) at The American Express, Joaquin Niemann (70-1) at the Genesis Invitational and Justin Thomas (66-1) live at the PGA Championship.

McDonald hit two of his three matchup plays at last week's Bermuda Championship, including winner Seamus Power +100 over pre-tournament favorite Denny McCarthy! At the Zozo Championship, McDonald NAILED a first-round leader, backing 80-1 Brendan Steele, and also hit two of three matchup plays, backing winner Keegan Bradley over Corey Conners, one of the favorites. He is up more than 15 units on matchup wagers this season, and anyone who followed McDonald's advice cashed in HUGE!

Now, McDonald has studied the 2022 World Wide Technology Championship field and locked in his best bets, top sleepers and favorites to avoid. SHOCKINGLY, McDonald is fading McNealy, one of the top choices of oddsmakers! McNealy is known to find trouble off the tee, and McDonald doesn't think a player still seeking a first PGA Tour victory deserves a spot among this group of favorites.

Instead, McDonald is targeting a MONSTER long shot to win who would bring a payout of 100-1! The expert says this golfer "is known to take care of scoring opportunities," and this course will play to his strengths. If he can pull off a STUNNING victory, he would bring a HUGE payday for anyone who backs him! You ABSOLUTELY need to see who it is before locking in any World Wide Technology Championship 2022 picks of your own!
