Not sure what Alabama A&M is doing in the CIT, considering the Bulldogs were 11-22 SU this season, couldn't get above .500 in SWAC play, and served as familiar cannon-fodder for a variety of higher-level foes in pre-league play. As one of the nation's worst shooters beyond the arc (only 28.5% triples ranks 343 out of 351), A&M also isn't exactly built to play from behind. Note the Peay closed the season hot, with only two spread and SU losses across the last 11 games, taking Stetson to the final seconds in the A-Sun finale. The Guvs' lively offense is led by transfer G DeMarcus Sharp (17.1 ppg), who followed HC Corey Gipson from Northwestern State to Clarksville. Play Austin Peay (CIT)
Good news here that the CIT is giving us another chance to use "over" with Austin Peay, as the Guvs became one of the most reliable "totals" performers in the country down the stretch. APSU finished the season with 11 straight "overs" and 16-1 "over" into the CIT for HC Corey Gipson, whose top scorer DeMarcus Sharp (17.6 ppg) was one of several who followed Gipson from Northwestern State, as well as Missouri State the year before. Note A&M games slowed pace-wise once into the SWAC, a phenomenon of that loop every season, but expect a return to early-season patterns when the Bulldogs opened the season on a 9-4 "over" run. Play Alabama A&M-Austin Peay "Over" (CIT)
While Austin Peay plays at a moderate pace, its last outing did produce 186 points. The Governors are often gold on three-point shots. Visiting A&M ranks 243rd in scoring defense. It is likely the weakest team in any late March tournament, and Peay is itching for a blowout that could send scoring through the roof. Odd that the total is near the median for postseason games today.
