Winter Classics and outdoor games in general rarely turn into shootouts. Offense is more difficult, passing in particular, with ice conditions less than ideal. A byproduct of these games, where maintaining rushes into the attacking ends are difficult with passing not so easy. Add in some great defense lately by the Kraken (five goals allowed in last four games, all wins) and Joey Daccord excelling goal, and the recipe for another 3-2-type Winter Classic is on the table. The Kraken closed 2023 on an uptick with four wins in a row into New Year's, mostly due to suddenly-airtight defense that has allowed only five goals in the win streak. Much credit to GK Joey Daccord, now the number one with Philipp Grubauer on the injured list, though ex-Panther Chris Driedger did step in for the win over the Flames last week. Meanwhile mostly indifferent play lately from VGK, which just broke a 4-game skid with a win in the last game vs. the Kings, though the last four on the most-recent road trip were all losses, with 20 goals allowed. This is an outdoor game being played in T-Mobile Park. The Kraken has won four straight games and has revege versus the Knights with three straight losses.
