Packers vs. Saints Week 3 Vegas spread and betting odds: Injury questions for Pro Bowl WRs Davante Adams, Michael Thomas

Will Pro Bowl receivers Davante Adams (Packers) and Michael Thomas (Saints) play in Sunday's big Green Bay at New Orleans matchup? Adams seems more likely to.

It's a terrific Sunday night matchup in Week 3 as the Green Bay Packers visit the New Orleans Saints in what could be the last time that all-time great quarterbacks Aaron Rodgers and Drew Brees ever face off. In fact, short of the teams meeting in the playoffs – quite possible with both co-leading their respective divisions -- it probably will be as Brees is expected to retire to his waiting TV job. Rodgers perhaps will have his injured Pro Bowl wideout available Sunday in Davante Adams, but Brees' Pro Bowl receiver, Michael Thomas, is likely to miss a second straight game. The Saints are 3-point on the William Hill NFL odds – down from an open of -6.

Adams left the Week 2 win over Detroit in the second half with a hamstring injury; he was also rolled up on from behind in the first half while blocking. Head coach Matt LaFleur said afterward that Adams wanted to go back in the game, but the Packers preferred to play it cautious with a big lead.

"I know he wanted to go back in the game," LaFleur said. "I just told him, 'Hey, let's just see how these next few series go and see if we need you.' If we don't need him, we didn't want to put him back in a position to do further harm to his own body."

The Packers carried just four healthy wide receivers into the Lions game after putting Equanimeous St. Brown on injured reserve last week. After a monster Week 1 with 14 catches for 156 yards and two touchdowns vs. the Vikings, Adams was held to three catches for 36 yards against the Lions. Green Bay's first injury report for Week 3 is due out later Wednesday and if Adams is at least listed as "limited" he would be on track to play.

Saints two-time Pro Bowl cornerback Marshon Lattimore surely will be the main defender on Adams. When New Orleans beat Green Bay in 2017 in the most recent meeting, Lattimore (who would win 2017 NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year) helped hold Adams to 12 yards on two catches. However, Rodgers missed that game due to injury.

Thomas, meanwhile, missed New Orleans' 34-24 upset loss Monday night in Las Vegas with an ankle injury. It was originally reported that Thomas would miss at least a few games, but he progressed fairly well last week in practice before being inactive. Thomas had a quiet Week 1 vs. Tampa Bay with three catches for 17 yards.

Somewhat ironically, the Packers' team doctor could help determine whether Thomas plays Sunday. He will travel to Green Bay this week to meet in person with renowned surgeon Robert Anderson, who is also the Packers' team doctor. The Saints previously had sent an MRI of Thomas' ankle to Anderson, who determined that the player had a mild high ankle sprain but also want an in-person exam.

Green Bay is looking for its first win in New Orleans since 1995. The winning team has scored 34-plus points in seven of the last nine matchups.
