The 2022-23 NFL regular season is in the books, and one statistical category that no player wants to "win" is leading the league in interceptions thrown. That honor went to the two primary quarterbacks of the Texas teams, as the Dallas Cowboys' Dak Prescott and Houston Texans' Davis Mills tied with 15 picks. Below is how dead-heat rules at BetMGM (and most other books) work.

Prescott was a +5000 long shot to throw the most interceptions entering the season. His previous career high was 10 in 16 games in 2021, and he had two full seasons with single-digit picks: four in 2016 when he was the NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year, and eight in 2018.

He made history this season by becoming is the first player in NFL history to lead (or share the lead) in interceptions despite missing at least five games. Prescott missed exactly that many – he was out Weeks 2-6 with a fractured thumb. Norm Snead (1973), Jake Plummer (1999), and Carson Wentz (2020) previously held the record of each missing four games while leading the league in interceptions.

In his final seven games, Prescott had at least one pick in each and a total of 11. He had a brutal pick-six in Sunday's loss to Washington, throwing it just one play after almost throwing another pick-six. Overall, Prescott had a season interception rate of 3.8%, which also led the league.

While Prescott's job is in no jeopardy, Mills probably is done as a starter for Houston as the Texans are expected to take a quarterback with the No. 2 overall pick in this year's draft if they stay in that slot. What the Bears do at No. 1 overall, including potentially trading the pick to a QB-needy team, may determine whether Alabama's Bryce Young or Ohio State's CJ Stroud is available for Houston, which fired head coach Lovie Smith on Monday.

Mills was +800 entering the season to lead in picks. Because he and Prescott tied, dead-head rules apply: Divide the odds by the number of winners. Thus, Prescott pays out +2500 instead of +5000 and Mills +400 instead of +800.
