Bucs vs. Broncos Week 3 Vegas spread: Big early odds shift with Drew Lock out for Denver

The Denver Broncos will be very short-handed offensively when they host the Bucs in Week 3.

There were some season-changing injuries around the NFL on Sunday and arguably no team was hit harder than the Denver Broncos, who were a chic playoff pick entering the year by many experts but already might be seeing their season spiral out of control at 0-2. Denver has lost starting quarterback Drew Lock for at least two weeks and perhaps as many as six with a severe rotator cuff strain, and No. 1 receiver Courtland Sutton is finished for 2020 with a torn-up knee.

Lock was hit hard by the Steelers' Bud Dupree in Sunday's 26-21 loss in Pittsburgh with just under eight minutes remaining in the first quarter. Lock, who fumbled on the play, was unable to return with journeyman Jeff Driskel taking over under center.

"It all depends upon the healing process," Coach Vic Fangio said of Lock's shoulder. "There's nothing structurally wrong. He just has a bad bruise there, and when it's your throwing shoulder, it's going to take time to heal."

Driskel, a 2016 sixth-round pick by the 49ers, has played in 13 games in his career with the Bengals, Lions and now Broncos. He's 1-7 as a starter with Denver as a 6-point home underdog for Week 3 vs. Tom Brady and the Tampa Bay Bucs. Driskel was 18 of 34 for 256 yards with two touchdowns and an interception Sunday. If Driskel were to get injured, the Broncos would be down to current practice-squad QB Brett Rypien.

Sutton missed Week 1 with a shoulder injury and was knocked out of Sunday's game early in the second half with what proved to be a torn ACL. He had three catches for 66 yards. Last year, Sutton led the team with 72 catches, 1,112 yards and six receiving scores.

As it was, the Broncos were without star linebacker Von Miller, cornerback AJ Bouye and running back Philip Lindsay on Sunday. Miller may miss the season following ankle surgery, Bouye (shoulder) will miss at least the next two games on injured reserve and Lindsay is expected to miss at least a few more games with a toe issue.

On top of all that, the Broncos lost two defensive linemen, Dre'Mont Jones and DeMarcus Walker, to injuries Sunday. Both are expected to miss multiple games.

Tampa, which apparently escaped Week 2 without any major injuries, opened as a 3.5-point favorite and the fact it's already at -6 means the Bucs could easily get to -7 or higher.
