I hate this football game. Don't like much about it. This will be (another) prime-time hate-watch.

Hopefully it manages to somehow clear the lowest of low bars set by the Sunday night debacle in Denver. There's been plenty of bad luck in these parts these days. But let's face it, we'll all be watching Cooper Rush vs. Daniel Jones. And there isn't even a second Monday night game to distract us this week. I would stay away from this for the most part and just accept it as the approximation of high-grade NFL football that it is likely to be (Preseason Week 6?) and try to find some enjoyment in that.

Giants at Cowboys

Spread: Cowboys +1

I guess I'll take the point. Micah Parsons is the best player in this football game, and so far no one can really slow him down. The game is a toss-up, but couldn't you see Jones getting a bit suffocated in a big prime-time spot at home against a defense that knows him well? Yes, Brian Daboll is an offensive whiz, but this Giants offense lacks vital pieces. Jones has struggled to complete 60% of his passes against the Cowboys in his career and been sacked nine times in five games against them. He has been pressured on nearly 50% of his dropbacks through two weeks – untenable at best – and will be facing a tough assignment here.

Game Total: Under 39

As I wrote in my Best Bets on Friday, Week 3 was going to be dedicated to the great Colin Hay of Men At Work, who penned the anthem "Down Under." This is the land down Under in the NFL these days, and I see no reason to anticipate anything but ugly offensive football here. Wink Martindale will throw all kinds of blitzes at Cooper Rush. I'm not sure that's going to look great for the Dallas offense. It does look like the lack of preseason work is dragging down the overall state of position player effectiveness.

Player Props

Saquan Barkley Over 19.5 rushing attempts (-103)

Daboll likes to chuck the ball around, but horses for courses. Barkley is at 39 carries through two games, he looks as healthy as he's been in a while. The cruel reality of a running back in his situation is that his workload will probably be exaggerated from week to week based on the limitations of this offense and what it can do best. In a big divisional game with a chance to somehow get to 3-0 at the start of a rebuild and the back is averaging more than 6 yards per carry against a defense that can maul your quarterback? I'll take the Over.

Graham Gano Over 1.5 field goals

How about these sexy props? What an adrenaline rush. But if the game is low-scoring and if the Giants struggle to finish drives, well, I see Gano getting called for duty. He went 4-for-4 last week and yeah, the Meadowlands can be a tough spot, but I will lean in to this in keeping with the overall vibes from this game.

Same-Game Parlay

Alternate O/U (40.5), Daniel Jones to throw an INT, Barkley over 19.5 attempts (+750)

Plenty of value here so let's push the over/under just a bit for protection. Jones is known for struggling at home, with some bizarre reverse splits (18 TD to 19 interceptions in 20 home games, compared to 30 and 11 in 20 games on the road). Dallas should present obvious problems and has a ball-hawker or two in the secondary. And as noted, I see Barkley being a big part of the game plan, even if he isn't being tremendously effective.
