Athletics vs. Yankees Tuesday MLB injury report, odds, props: Aaron Judge +200 to homer in return from injured list

The Yankees will activate 2022 AL MVP Aaron Judge from the injured list on Tuesday.

New York Yankees outfielder Aaron Judge won the American League MVP award and set the AL home run record last year, missing just five games over the course of the season. Judge already has missed more than that this year due to a hip injury but will be activated from the injured list Tuesday ahead of a home matchup against the Oakland A's. Judge is +200 at FanDuel to hit go yard on Tuesday.

New York beat Oakland 7-2 in the series opener on Monday to improve 4-6 without Judge this season, averaging 3.5 runs per game, compared to 15-11 and 4.3 runs with him. Judge hadn't gotten off to the best of starts (by his standards), batting .261 with six homers, 14 RBI and an .863 OPS in his 26 games. He last played on April 27 in Texas, when he was pulled after two at-bats because of the hip. Judge was originally injured sliding headfirst into third base on April 26 against Minnesota.

Manager Aaron Boone added that no restrictions will be placed on Judge. To activate Judge, the Yankees need to make a corresponding roster move and "everything [is] on the table," Boone said.

"I'm just going to try to play my game — don't slide headfirst into third," Judge said. "Just try to keep with what I was doing early in the year."

Judge is -290 to record a hit on Tuesday and +1500 to go deep twice. He will first face struggling A's journeyman pitcher Drew Rucinski (0-2, 7.71 ERA), who is back in the majors after resurrecting his career in the Korean Baseball Organization. Rucinski has allowed 15 hits and two homers in his two starts. Yankees batters have recorded at least eight hits in each of their last six games. Judge hasn't faced Rucinski.

New York starts Clarke Schmidt (0-3, 5.83), who also might be pitching to save his rotation spot – although the Yanks are so banged up there, they likely will have no choice but to keep the status quo until Luis Severino completes his rehab assignment. Schmidt has not allowed an earned run in two of his last three starts and has tossed at least 4.1 innings in each of his last three after lasting four innings or fewer in his first four starts this season.
