2020 NFL Draft: With eighth pick, Arizona Cardinals expected to target offensive lineman

Arizona is likely to get QB Kyler Murray more help on offense with the eighth overall pick in the first round of the NFL Draft next Thursday.

No matter what happens in the 2020 NFL Draft, the Arizona Cardinals already are offseason winners. That's because they stole All-Pro receiver DeAndre Hopkins from Houston in an incredibly lopsided trade. That deal has shot up second-year quarterback Kyler Murray to +2500 on the William Hill sportsbook odds to win 2020 NFL MVP.

The Arizona defense was terrible in 2019, ranking 28th in points allowed (27.6 ppg) and last in yards allowed (402.4 ypg). The team loaded up there in free agency by adding the likes of linebackers Devon Kennard (Lions) and De'Vondre Campbell (Falcons), and defensive tackles Jordan Phillips (Bills) and Trevon Coley (Colts).

Thus, most experts agree that the Cardinals' most pressing need entering the draft – they pick No. 8 overall in Round 1 -- is on the offensive line after Murray was sacked 50 times in his NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year-winning 2019 season.

At William Hill, the favorite on the "first offensive lineman drafted" prop for the draft is Iowa's Tristan Wirfs, and we projected him to go No. 4 overall to the New York Giants. Alabama's Jedrick Wills Jr. and Louisville's Mekhi Becton are next at +240 each, and we think Wills lands in Arizona.

Wills is given an Over-Under draft spot of 9.5, with both options at -110 (wager $110 to win $100). That's he goes anywhere in the Top 10 is yes-only at -180.

On the CBS Big Board, Wills is ranked as the No. 6 overall player and No. 1 offensive lineman. The 6-foot-4, 315-pounder ran a 5.05 40-yard dash at the Combine and had a vertical of 34.5 inches. Wills made 29 straight starts to end his Alabama career, and last year he allowed only one sack and 3.5 quarterback hurries while missing just seven assignments in 771 snaps.

Alabama has had 15 offensive linemen drafted since 2009, but no Tide offensive tackle has made a Pro Bowl in the NFL since Chris Samuels, who was selected by the Redskins at No. 3 overall in 2000.

NFL Pick: Wills Under 9.5 draft position (-110); this way, you still win on Wills if he goes fourth to Giants.
