Lamar Jackson trade odds: Colts, Patriots, Lions, Falcons favorites as Jackson reveals trade request

Lamar Jackson has officially asked the Ravens for a trade.

On social media this morning, unsigned Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson let his followers know that he requested a trade on March 2 from the only NFL team he has known and told the city and the Baltimore fans goodbye. The Ravens applied the non-exclusive franchise tag to Jackson a few weeks ago, meaning he can negotiate with other teams, but Baltimore would get the chance to match any contract or get two first-round picks in return if it decided to let the quarterback go.

It's also important to note that any possible transaction doesn't have to include two first-round picks if the Ravens do oblige the former MVP's trade request. As long as Jackson signs his franchise tag tender, any terms can be agreed to with another team in a trade (Baltimore surely would want more). On issue thus far is that Jackson doesn't have an NFL-registered agent.

Jackson's announcement on social media came at the exact time that Ravens coach John Harbaugh was set to speak to reporters at the league's annual meeting:

"I want to first thank you all for all of the love and support you consistently show towards me," Jackson's statement read. "All of you are amazing and I appreciate y'all so much. I want you all to know not to believe everything you read about me. Let me personally answer your questions in regards to my future plans. As of March 2nd I requested a trade from the Ravens organization for which the Ravens has not been interested in meeting my value, any and everyone that's has met me or been around me know I love the game of football and my dream is to help a team win the super bowl. You all are great but I had to make a business decision that was best for my family and I. No matter how far I go or where my career takes me, I'll continue to be close to my fans of Baltimore Flock nation and the entire State of Maryland. You'll See me again."

Harbaugh said that he still expects Jackson to be the Week 1 starter for Baltimore.

So where may Jackson land? The Indianapolis Colts talked to the Chicago Bears about trading up for the No. 1 pick in this year's draft, but the Bears instead took Carolina's package, so the Colts are still sitting there at No. 4. That may entice the Ravens as a way to get their Jackson replacement.

Indianapolis has gone through six different Week 1 starting quarterbacks in six years, and this season will make seven. The Colts' new head coach, Shane Steichen, worked with a Jackson-like mobile QB last season in MVP candidate Jalen Hurts. Indy may not want to take a project like Anthony Richardson and could be attracted to more of a sure thing like Jackson.

How much longer will Bill Belichick trust Mac Jones in New England? "I'm not going to talk about players on any other team," Belichick said this morning when asked about Jackson's trade request.

All things equal, Baltimore surely would like to trade Jackson to the NFC if the team is indeed going to move him. Previous reports were that QB-needy teams like Atlanta and Washington weren't interested, but that the four best QBs in this year's draft could be gone in the first five picks may change their thinking.
