Rams' Super Bowl odds improve after blockbuster trade for Jaguars cornerback Jalen Ramsey

The Los Angeles Rams didn't wait until the Oct. 29 NFL trade deadline to make their all-in Super Bowl move as they have acquired Jacksonville star cornerback Jalen Ramsey.

When the Los Angeles Rams traded Pro Bowl cornerback Marcus Peters to the Baltimore Ravens earlier Tuesday for linebacker Kenny Young and a 2020 draft pick, it didn't make a lot of sense on its own. That's because the Rams were already quite thin in the secondary after placing their other top cornerback, Aqib Talib, on injured reserve Monday with a rib injury. It sure felt like another move was coming when Peters was shipped out.

And it sure was. On Tuesday night, the Rams acquired arguably the best cover corner in the league in Jacksonville's Jalen Ramsey. The price was massive as Los Angeles is sending the Jaguars first-round picks in 2020 and 2021 and a fourth-round pick in 2021. Ramsey had been demanding a trade since a Week 2 sideline shouting match with Coach Doug Marrone in a loss at Houston. Ramsey, who has one year left on his five-year rookie deal, hasn't played since because of "injury" and other reasons. Pro Football Focus ranked him as the 15th-best overall player in the NFL entering 2019.

L.A. has not been great defensively this year, allowing 346.8 yards per game and 25.7 points (the offense has definitely underachieved). Against the pass, the Rams were allowing 241.3 yards per game and a quarterback rating of 90.9. They are in Atlanta this Sunday – if Ramsey plays, he surely will be placed on Falcons star receiver Julio Jones -- and opened as 3-point favorites on the NFL odds.

That trade did affect the NFL futures odds for the 3-3 Rams as they improved to +2100 at FanDuel to win the Super Bowl and +1000 to repeat as NFC champions. L.A. is only a third-favorite to win the NFC West at +480, though, with San Francisco (5-0) at -110 and Seattle (5-1) at +150.

The NFL trade deadline is Oct. 29.
