NFL Week 4 Saints vs. Cowboys: Total on the rise despite absence of Drew Brees

Sunday's marquee match-up has an over/under on the move.

Week 4 of the 2019 NFL season presents a number of wildly intriguing match-ups, including a battle of undefeated teams when the New England Patriots square off with the Buffalo Bills. No game is receiving more national attention attention than the Sunday night match-up between the New Orleans Saints and the Dallas Cowboys, though, and much of that attention appears to be on the over/under total in prime time.

It should be noted that, in general, casual bettors favor the "over" side of things, especially when high-powered offenses are involved. However, the total for Saints-Cowboys opened as low as 45 or 45.5 in some places and, during the week, there has been gradual movement in the number, taking it all the way to a consensus total of 47.5 by Saturday.

That comes as something of a surprise given the absence of Drew Brees, as the Saints don't project to be quite as explosive with Teddy Bridgewater under center. Alvin Kamara did explode in a quality win over the Seattle Seahawks last week but, in general, New Orleans deployed a game plan that was conservative in nature and, on the Dallas side, the Cowboys are capable of leaning on Ezekiel Elliott and the running game whenever necessary.

Ultimately, the move does make sense, as both teams are 2-1 to the over this season and, in the case of Dallas, the emergence of Dak Prescott opens the door for a more explosive offense on a weekly basis. It will be interesting to see where the total ultimately settles at kick-off but, over the course of only a few days, the number moved nearly a full field goal with more activity potentially on the horizon.
