Coronavirus: Steelers-Titans will be moved to Monday or Tuesday, but Vikings-Texans likely played Sunday

A COVID-19 outbreak with the Titans will lead to their game vs. Pittsburgh on Sunday being postponed by a day or two -- assuming no more positive tests. There appears to be a conflict with the Nashville MLS team for Tuesday.

The Tennessee Titans have had nine positive COVID-19 tests this week with four of them players – three are known to be defensive end DaQaun Jones, tight end Tommy Hudson and long snapper Beau Brinkley (fourth TBA). The Titans weren't going to be allowed back into their team facility until Saturday at the earliest and that would have put them at a huge disadvantage to play Sunday at home vs. the Pittsburgh Steelers in what was to be the lone matchup of unbeatens in Week 4. That game will not happen Sunday now per multiple reports but will be played Monday or even Tuesday assuming no more COVID-19 issues.

The Titans will be tested over the next couple of days before determining the next steps, and having that fourth player test positive probably was the last straw for the NFL regarding trying to play the game Sunday. Pushing it back a day or two would allow for additional testing and contact tracing to occur.

The Monday night game in Week 4 looks to be a mismatch between the winless Falcons and unbeaten Packers from Lambeau. If the NFL prefers a standalone Tuesday game between the Steelers and Titans, that would go up against Game 4 of the NBA Finals between the Lakers and Heat. Another thing to consider: The Nashville MLS team is scheduled to play at Nissan Stadium on Tuesday night. If the NFL asked and threw in a few $$$, that club surely would move its game a day or two.

Having the two NFL teams play Tuesday obviously would be a disadvantage for them with a very quick turnaround for Week 5. The Titans are scheduled to host Buffalo then in what could also be a matchup of unbeatens, while the Steelers are to host the Eagles. It seems more likely there will be a second Monday night game to close Week 4.

The Titans played at the Minnesota Vikings last Sunday and the Vikings had to leave their team facility on Tuesday because of the outbreak with Tennessee and have to stay out for at least 48 hours. However, the Vikings have had no positive results in their latest round of coronavirus testing.

Thus, it's looking good for the winless Vikings to play at the also-winless Houston Texans on Sunday. According to ESPN, Texans coach Bill O'Brien said Wednesday that the Texans were told by the league to expect to play. Houston is a 4-point favorite on the NFL odds.
