The New York Yankees welcomed back ace pitcher Gerrit Cole from the COVID list on Monday and continued their hot streak with a win over the Angels. On Tuesday, the Yanks host the Boston Red Sox in a day-night doubleheader, and pitcher Jordan Montgomery and catcher Gary Sanchez will both be activated off the COVID list and start the 1:05 p.m. ET matchup. The Yanks are short favorites at Caesars Sportsbook. Click here for model pick on Game 1.

Sanchez is hitting just .216 on the season but does have 17 home runs in 278 at-bats. He hasn't played for the big club since Aug. 4 and is batting seventh today. Doubtful that he also starts the night game. First baseman Anthony Rizzo remains on the COVID list. DH Giancarlo Stanton is not starting Game 1. He has reached base in 13 straight games and is batting .300 with two homers and 10 RBIs in that span. Stanton will be back in there for Game 2.

The lefty Montgomery is 4-5 with a 3.69 ERA this year and last pitched on Aug. 1, allowing one run and four hits over five innings in a no-decision vs. the Marlins. He is 0-2 despite a very good 3.16 ERA in three starts this year vs. the Red Sox, who are hitting a collective .219 off him. Montgomery does not like day games, though, going 0-3 with a 5.13 ERA.

Joey Gallo hit the go-ahead two-run homer in the first inning of Monday's 2-1 win over the Angels, and five of his last eight home runs have either tied the game or given his team the lead. He's at DH for Game 1 in place of Stanton. The Yankees have won 15 of their past 20 to get a season-high 14 games over .500 – their first time reaching that high since finishing the 2019 season 44 games over.

Boston, which was off Monday, goes with rookie right-hander Tanner Houck (0-3, 2.93 ERA) in Game 1. He has pitched 7.2 innings this year vs. New York and allowed an unearned run and three hits with 11 strikeouts. The Sox have a bit of an unusual defensive alignment in Game 1 with usual DH JD Martinez in right field, Kyle Schwarber at DH and Hunter Renfroe in center field.

The Red Sox have won 11 of the past 14 in the series but are 1-7 in their past eight overall as underdogs.
