Updated Super Bowl 54 odds: Unbeaten 49ers finally getting their due

The San Francisco 49ers were the big movers on the odds to win the Super Bowl following Week 6.

Is it time to take the San Francisco 49ers for real? FanDuel oddsmakers apparently think so as the Niners have jumped to +1100 to win Super Bowl LIV; they were +1800 entering Week 6. San Francisco dominated the Rams in Los Angeles, 20-7. That terrific Niners defense held L.A. to just 157 yards of offense and a combined 0-for-13 on third- and fourth-down conversions.

It was the first time the 49ers held an opponent without a conversion since Oct. 16, 1988, also in a road game against the Rams. On Sunday, Los Angeles QB Jared Goff was held to a career-low 78 yards passing and didn't have a completion longer than 12 yards. It's the fourth time in franchise history the 49ers are 5-0 and first time since 1990. It's also the first time since 1990 that 49ers have held opponents under 100 yards passing in back-to-back games. San Francisco is -10 on the NFL odds this week at Washington.

New England is the only other unbeaten team and is the +260 favorite on the Super Bowl odds. But, seriously, when will the Patriots play someone that's any good? It's another patsy next Monday with New England -10 at the New York Jets.

The Kansas City Chiefs had been the second-favorites behind the Patriots since the start of the season but have dropped to +850 third-favorites after a second straight home loss on Sunday. How are teams beating the Chiefs? By keeping Patrick Mahomes and that offense off the field. Houston limited the Chiefs to just 20 minutes and 12 seconds of possession in Week 6, which was Kansas City's lowest time of possession in a home game since the statistic was first kept in 1977.

New Orleans is now the second-favorite at +700 and is 4-0 under backup quarterback Teddy Bridgewater. However, the Saints are short road underdogs this Sunday at Chicago (+3000), which comes off the bye.
