Tuesday, August 15 MLB odds, props, trends: Bettors backing Phillies' Trea Turner, Mets' David Peterson

Here are the most-wagered MLB props Tuesday at DraftKings.

Over the past two seasons, Trea Turner was one of the best all-around players in baseball and got NL MVP votes after both campaigns. The Dodgers wanted him back in free agency, but Turner signed a $300 million deal with the Phillies. He hasn't had a great overall season but is warming up, and Turner is taking the most action of any MLB player on the DraftKings prop board tonight vs. the Blue Jays, followed by Mets pitcher David Peterson vs. the Pirates.

On Aug. 2, Turner had one of the worst games of his career in Miami, going 0-for-5 and making an error on a routine play in the bottom of the 11th inning that allowed the Marlins to tie the game and eventually win it in 12. A few days later when the Phillies returned home, those notorious fans made a point to cheer for Turner for an entire weekend series to rebuild his confidence. It seems to have worked.

Turner enters Tuesday's series opener in Toronto on a 10-game hitting streak. Last week, he tallied a team-high 13 hits in 27 at-bats over seven games and his season batting average went from .239 to .252 just like that. It's still a far cry from his career .295 mark, but he's getting there. Turner Over 1.5 total bases (+110) is the No. 1 prop tonight in terms of action. He has never faced Blue Jays starting pitcher Yusei Kikuchi. Turner is hitting only .236 on the road with 20 extra-base hits.

Peterson Over 4.5 strikeouts (-160) vs. the visiting Pirates is No. 2 on the DK board. The lefty isn't having a good season at 3-7 with a 5.61 ERA, 1.61 WHIP and 74 strikeouts in 19 appearances (13 starts). Of late, he has essentially been a glorified opener as his past eight outings have lasted 3.2 innings or fewer. Peterson has topped 4.5 Ks once in that span, although it was his last time out. When Peterson has thrown more than 50 pitches this year, he has gone Over 4.5 strikeouts in 10 of 13 games.

Tonight's other popular MLB player props at DraftKings:

Astros' Jose Altuve Over 1.5 hits + runs + RBIs (-135) at Marlins: One of the big money-winners for bettors at DK on Monday was Altuve going Over this same number -- he was 3-for-4 with an RBI.

Phillies' Zack Wheeler Under 1.5 walks (-115) at Blue Jays: Wheeler is rolling with six straight quality starts and didn't walk more than one batter in each of those outings.

Reds' Graham Ashcraft Under 4.5 strikeouts (-140) vs. Guardians: This one is interesting, as Ashcraft has been pitching well since the end of June and has topped 4.5 Ks in three of his past four.
