Tua Tagovailoa's positive health updates could affect 2020 NFL Draft props

The former Alabama standout has been examined by numerous teams at the 2020 NFL Combine, and two teams picking in the top five are favored to land the one-time consensus top pick.

The 2020 NFL Combine is in Indianapolis this week, and of course that means the 2020 NFL Draft is just around the corner.

Players are being poked and prodded, quizzed and courted, and likely none are under more scrutiny than former Alabama quarterback Tua Tagovailoa.

Before the college season started, Tagovailoa was expected by most experts to be the top pick in the 2020 NFL Draft on April 23.

But a devastating injury and a historic season by LSU's Joe Burrow have made the Heisman Trophy winner a near lock to go No. 1.

PointsBet has Burrow at -10000 to be the top pick in its NFL draft odds, with Ohio State's Chase Young the second favorite at +1200. Many books have taken the wager off the board entirely.

With the Cincinnati Bengals on the clock and almost certain to take Burrow, some shops have released NFL odds on which team will select Tagovailoa.

The Caesars Sportsbook has the Detroit Lions and the Miami Dolphins as the co-favorites at -110. The Lions have the No. 3 pick, and the Dolphins pick fifth.

The Los Angeles Chargers are at +250 to get Tagovailoa with the sixth pick.

Los Angeles is in the market to replace 38-year-old Philip Rivers, who will move on in free agency, and Tyrod Taylor is currently their main option.

The Chargers could need to move up a couple of spots, and several mock drafts have them trading into the top four to get their man.

The Washington Redskins are expected to take Young at No. 2, and with 2019 first-rounder Daniel Jones progressing in New York, the Giants could trade out of the No. 4 spot.

The Lions also could opt to move down and obtain more picks, and reports are saying some Dolphins staffers are enamored with Oregon quarterback Justin Herbert.

It is conceivable the Bengals could pull a shocker and select the talented left-hander over Burrow, and Caesars has set the odds of that happening at +700.

The Carolina Panthers, who could be concerned with Cam Newton's future after foot surgery, also are at +700, and they have the No. 7 pick and might need to move up.

The Jaguars are +900 to land the 21-year-old with the ninth pick.

Tagovailoa was in the running for the Heisman and on track to be in the mix for the top pick until he was injured in a Nov. 9 game against Mississippi State.

The 6-foot-1, 218-pounder was chased out of the pocket and dragged down by two defenders, dislocating his right hip and fracturing his posterior wall.

Tagovailoa had surgery Nov. 18, and he expects to be cleared by doctors March 9. He plans to work out for NFL teams on April 9.

Tagovailoa received positive reports from teams who examined him the past two days, according to NFL.com's Ian Rapoport.

The MRIs were as good as could be expected, the fracture is healed and there is no loss of blood flow. Rapoport reported that one source told him it "looked great."

Some sportsbooks also are offering NFL lines on other 2020 NFL Draft options.

PointsBet also offers wagers on the first running back drafted with Georgia star D'Andre Swift the favorite at -270, Wisconsin's Jonathan Taylor the second choice at +180 and Ohio State's JK Dobbins +400 and Florida State's Cam Akers +800.

The favorite at the New Jersey-based shop to be the first wide receiver off the board is Alabama's Jerry Jeudy -154, followed by Oklahoma's CeeDeee Lamb (+105), Tee Higgins of Clemson (+600) and Bama's Henry Ruggs (+700).
