Stefon Diggs traded to Texans: Proven model updates 2024 NFL futures for Houston and Buffalo

The Buffalo Bills have traded Pro Bowl receiver Stefon Diggs to Houston.

We have been hearing rumblings for a couple of years that four-time Pro Bowl wide receiver Stefon Diggs was not happy in Buffalo despite generally putting up big numbers. He was visibly frustrated with quarterback Josh Allen on the sideline at times. Diggs now has a new home in the AFC as he has been traded to Houston for a draft pick.

Perhaps not coincidentally, the trade comes a day after Diggs responded to a social media user's declaration that he wasn't essential to Allen's success by replying, "You sure?" Clearly, Diggs had wanted out despite the three-time team captain having signed a four-year, $140 million contract extension in April 2022.

Last season, Diggs caught 107 passes for 1,183 yards and eight touchdowns. Excellent numbers, but the 30-year-old also had 13 straight games with fewer than 100 receiving yards, including the playoffs, the longest streak of his career. Diggs was a non-factor in the Divisional Round home upset loss to Kansas City.

But since joining Buffalo in a trade from Minnesota in 2020, Diggs' 445 receptions ranked first overall in the NFL, his 5,372 yards fourth and his 37 receiving TDs fourth. Diggs has at least 100 catches in four straight seasons, tied with Davante Adams for the longest active streak in the league and two behind the league record set by Antonio Brown (2013-18).

Buffalo got a 2025 second-round pick (via the Vikings) in exchange for Diggs, a 2024 sixth-round pick and a 2025 fifth-round pick. The Bills will carry a dead money charge of $31.096 million next season. Buffalo's top three wideouts right now are Khalil Shakir, Curtis Samuel and Mack Hollins, and will now likely need to take a receiver or two early in this month's draft (the team does have two very good tight ends in Dalton Kincaid and Dawson Knox). Shakir is the only receiver on the Bills roster who has caught a pass from Josh Allen.
