Russell Wilson heaped praise on Seattle Seahawks rookie wide receiver DK Metcalf

DK Metcalf is already making a big-time impression on his quarterback.

Many were surprised when Ole Miss wide receiver DK Metcalf slid down the board in the 2019 NFL Draft. Eventually, the Seattle Seahawks jumped in with a trade to land Metcalf with the No. 64 overall pick but, while he hasn't made his official on-field debut just yet, Metcalf is already drawing rave reviews from arguably the most important person associated with his development in quarterback Russell Wilson

"Everybody knows about his ability to run and everything else, and jump and catch and all that," Wilson told ESPN's Brady Henderson. "You guys have been talking about that for months, but I think more than anything else, it's his brain and how he processes information and how quickly he understands it. He's really intelligent. He really understands the game really well. He takes coaching really well. He gets extra work. He's a legit pro wide receiver. He's everything that everybody was talking about in terms of what he's capable of and more."

Wilson didn't stop there, saying that Metcalf is already "looking really, really special" and saying plainly that the rookie pass-catcher "can do anything and everything" on the field. Throughout the draft process, Metcalf was lauded for his physical traits, standing 6'3 and 228 pounds with the ability to run a 4.33 in the 40-yard dash. His production didn't quite match the hype at the college level but Metcalf was projected by many as a first-round talent and this sentiment from Wilson underscores that belief.

At present, there is a real opportunity for playing time in Seattle, with only Tyler Lockett serving as a firmly established option at wide receiver. Metcalf may be raw at this stage but, given this kind of praise from Wilson and others, it wouldn't be a surprise to see him prominently featured on a team that has legitimate Super Bowl aspirations
