October 15: NBA Draft vs. Chiefs-Bills Thursday NFL vs. NHL and MLB playoffs vs. college football

The night of October 15 should be crazy in the sports world with something in every major sports league.

The NBA announced Thursday that the 2020 draft would be held Oct. 15 – three days after a potential Game 7 of the NBA Finals. October 15 could be a one-of-a-kind sports night because there's also a spectacular Thursday NFL game featuring the Kansas City Chiefs at the Buffalo Bills as well as a Big 12 college football matchup of Baylor at Texas Tech. Did we mention the NHL's Stanley Cup playoffs and Major League Baseball's postseason almost surely both going on too?

The NBA's Board of Governors voted 29-1 (Portland was the lone dissenter) on Thursday to approve the league's 22-team format to restart the 2019-2020 season in Orlando on July 31. They also agreed to push the draft lottery back to Aug. 25 – meaning the deadline for underclassmen to withdraw will be moved back as well – and the draft to Oct. 15. Georgia guard Anthony Edwards and Memphis big man James Wiseman are the favorites to be picked first.

That entire week of October could be insane because Game 7 of the NBA Finals would be held on Oct. 12, opposite a Chargers-Saints Monday night game in New Orleans. Frankly, Chiefs-Bills is even bigger because it's an intraconference matchup and could have a huge bearing on seeding in the AFC playoffs. Kansas City is a +200 favorite on the William Hill moneyline odds to repeat in the conference, while Buffalo is a +1000 third-favorite to win the AFC for the first time since 1993.

The NHL hasn't officially announced its postseason schedule yet, but there is no chance the playoffs would be done by mid-October. Major League Baseball owners and players are still haggling over their schedule, but it's known the owners refuse to drag their postseason into November. Just for a point of reference, on Oct. 15, 2019, Game 3 of the ALCS between the Astros and Yankees and Game 4 of the NLCS between the Cardinals and Nationals were played.

Let's not forget Thursday night college football, either, with Baylor visiting Texas Tech. Those Big 12 rivals always seem to play close, high-scoring games. Last year, the Bears were 33-30 double-overtime home winners.
