New York will debut one of its top prospects Tuesday in Everson Pereira.

Have the New York Yankees waived the white flag on the 2023 season? It sure appears that way as they enter Tuesday's home matchup against the Washington Nationals at 60-64 and on an eight-game losing streak. The Bombers have decided to start looking at their young players, as touted outfield prospect Everson Pereira will make his MLB debut Tuesday and start in left field. He's +600 at DraftKings to go yard.

Manager Aaron Boone, whose job could be in jeopardy, said that while Pereira is capable of playing all three outfield spots, his immediate role will be as the team's regular left fielder. The 22-year-old is ranked by MLB.com as the No. 80 overall prospect in the sport and No. 3 in the Yankees system. Pereira originally signed for $1.5 million out of Venezuela in 2017. He broke out by hitting 20 homers in just 49 games in 2021 in the minors and has been rising ever since.

This year, Pereira has slashed .300/.373/.548 with 18 home runs and 11 stolen bases in 81 games between Double-A Somerset and Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. He's -150 to record a hit Tuesday and +600 for a steal. Left field has essentially been an offensive black hole for the Yankees since the start of 2021 other than Andrew Benintendi's brief stop in the Bronx last year before he got hurt. He's now with the White Sox.

New York's eight-game losing streak is its longest since 1995. The Yankees haven't lost nine in a row since 1982. The franchise record is 12 straight losses in 1908. Since starting the 2022 season at 61-23, the Yanks are 98-104. The rotation has been one major issue in 2023 and big-ticket free agent signing Carlos Rodon has been an injury-plagued disaster at 1-4 with a 7.33 ERA in just six starts. He'll be on the mound Tuesday.

Washington counters with Josiah Gray (7-10, 3.96 ERA). He has a 2.82 ERA on the road compared to 5.76 at home. Gray has never faced the Yankees. The Nats take the field for the first time since signing manager Dave Martinez to a multiyear extension. A few months ago, he was among the betting favorites to be the first manager fired, but Washington has been one of the best teams in the majors since early July.
