Jonathan Taylor next NFL team odds: Colts running back allowed to seek trade, Dolphins clear favorites after losing out on Dalvin Cook

Colts All-Pro running back Jonathan Taylor is available for trade.

While it appears that reigning NFL rushing king Josh Jacobs will report to training camp despite unhappiness with his contact situation with the Raiders, 2021 league rushing champion Jonathan Taylor is not in the same frame of mind with the Colts, and the team has officially given him permission to seek a trade. SportsLine offers odds on Taylor's Week 1 team if he leaves Indianapolis.

Taylor has been seeking a contract extension since before training camp. He was so peeved a couple of weeks ago after a meeting with owner Jim Irsay that Taylor's camp demanded a trade. Irsay publicly denied that request, but apparently things have changed. Taylor remains on the physically unable to perform list due to January ankle surgery. He doesn't exactly have to rush back if he doesn't feel wanted.

The 24-year-old is in the final year of a rookie deal that pays him about $4.3 million in base salary. Taylor was a first-team All-Pro in 2021 when he led the league in rushing yards and touchdowns and finished second to Rams receiver Cooper Kupp for NFL Offensive Player of the Year. This past season, Taylor was limited to 11 games and held to 861 yards on a career-worst 4.5 yards per carry. The Colts are nearly one yard better per play with Taylor on the field since he was drafted in 2020.

No individual totals props are active on Taylor because of his uncertain status of 2023, but he's +4000 for Offensive Player of the Year, +800 to lead in rushing yards and +1000 to lead in rushing TDs.

Taylor has lost some trade leverage because two possible landing spots are gone with the New England Patriots signing Ezekiel Elliott and the New York Jets signing Dalvin Cook. Taylor is clearly better and much younger than both, but won't come cheaply in a trade, and will be expensive to extend. Reportedly, Indy wants a first-round pick or multiple picks that equate to a first-rounder. For Christian McCaffrey, the 49ers gave up second, third, fourth and fifth-round picks.

Miami makes plenty of sense as a destination. The Dolphins have two solid veteran backs in Jeff Wilson and Raheem Mostert but both have been proven injury prone, and third-round rookie De'Vone Achane just hurt his shoulder and is week-to-week. The Dolphins are all-in now and an offense with Taylor, Tua Tagovailoa, Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle would be downright scary. The Miami Herald's Barry Jackson tweeted that the Dolphins are expected to at least explore a trade.

Buffalo may try for Taylor to keep him away from the Dolphins; both teams also looked at Cook. Tampa Bay is in transition, but second-year Rachaad White may not be ready for a featured role in the backfield. Can the Cowboys trust Tony Pollard to stay healthy? Can the Vikings do the same with Alexander Mattison?

Baltimore loves collecting running backs. Taylor is still young enough that the Texans could take a shot and pair him with Dameon Pierce moving forward. Indy surely wouldn't trade him in the division, though. Chicago has the draft capital and Taylor would upgrade what the Bears have, but they are in a transition year.
