Unless you've got a roster stacked with high-end pitchers you'll start against any matchup, you'll probably need to keep a close eye on the schedule as you get ready to set your lineup for the upcoming week. You'll need to know which of your starters have bad matchups, which are set for two starts in the upcoming week, and which fringe-y options might just be worth going out to grab on waivers.

Which is why you'll definitely want to check out SportsLine's weekly pitching Start 'Em & Sit 'Em chart from William Dubiel. A 15-year Fantasy veteran, Dubiel got his start in Fantasy baseball and has done work for Rotoballer, Metro US and multiple other outlets during his career. He was named the No. 4 MLB Ranker for the 2017 MLB season, so if there's anybody who can give you an edge in your Fantasy baseball league, it's him.

Now, he's helping you set your pitching lineup each week. William goes through every starting pitcher matchup for the upcoming week, making start and sit picks for each game. Here are some of William's calls for Week 27:

    • Chi Chi Gonzalez has had an intriguing September after a positively brutal August. After posting an ERA over 11.00 last month he's rebounded with a 2.20 ERA in September across 16.1 innings. He's made three starts, two of them at Coors Field and the third on the road against the Dodgers — not exactly the easiest conditions in which to pitch. His 12:8 strikeout-to-walk ratio is certainly an issue, and it's likely not something he can sustain over any extended period of time. However, in the home stretch of the season, we're looking for any and all desperation plays we can find. Gonzalez is the definition of that — a hot pitcher that you might be able to ride for one or two starts. This week he's got the Brewers at home, and I'm rolling the dice on him.
    • Diamondbacks rookie Alex Young's ownership percentage is still surprisingly low given how quietly effective he's been in 2019. The 26-year-old has posted a 1.80 ERA across four September starts (20.0 IP), which has brought his season-long ERA down to a tidy 3.27. That stat, along with his 10.80 K/9 for September, are both largely buoyed by his September 7th start against the Reds, in which he threw eight innings of shutout, 12K ball. He represents another upside play for the final weeks, as he's got a two-start week on deck against St. Louis and San Diego, both bottom-ten offenses in the MLB.
    • Caleb Smith was a surprising bright spot for the lowly Marlins in 2019, but he's having some difficulty finishing out the season. Through his four September starts he's made it out of the fifth inning just once, and he's got a 5.32 ERA across those 22 innings. His typically excellent strikeout rate has sunk as well, as he's got just 21 strikeouts in that time frame. That's still above average, but not near the high bar he's set for himself. In fact, Smith has gotten out of the fifth inning just twice in the last two months. If he's not even lasting long enough to tally a win or quality start and his strikeout rate is also down, it's tough to trust him to do enough to provide the necessary Fantasy value to justify a start. Even in a two-start week, I'm not trusting Smith in what are now must-win scenarios.
