Dallas Cowboys: Jerry Jones believes a contract extension for QB Dak Prescott is 'imminent'

Prescott was fantastic in the season opener and he might be cashing in very soon.

High-profile contract negotiations were in play for the Dallas Cowboys throughout training camp but, in advance of a Week 1 victory over the New York Giants, quarterback Dak Prescott did not reach an agreement on a new deal. However, that might be changing in the (very) near future, particularly given the comments of Cowboys owner Jerry Jones on Sunday evening.

"Oh, yes, I do know that we'll get it done," Jones told Charean Williams of NBC Sports. "It would probably be fair to say it'll be done on a imminent basis. Imminent. Without being real clear, bright lined. It's not done. What's imminent? Well, days. Days. Or something like that."

Prescott enjoyed one of the best performances of his career in the season opener, throwing for 405 yards (on 25 of 32 passing) and four touchdowns to lead Dallas to victory. While his contract would have been a talking point even before that effort, Prescott was crisp in the new-look Cowboys offense and that almost certainly speeds up the timetable for securing a long-term agreement.

"I'm turning the page and I'm worried about the Washington Redskins," Prescott said when prompted with Jones' sentiment on his contract possibilities. "I have people that handle that. My focus is on this team, on the football game. I think as long as I can keep continuing to do that, this will do things like we did tonight. As I said, that's been out of my focus for the past week, and I told you guys that."

The Cowboys head to the nation's capital to take on the Washington Redskins in Week 2 and, at present, Dallas is a 5-point road favorite in their second contest. Prescott will be on the field either way but, based on Jones' comments here, it wouldn't be a shock to see yet another big-time contract delivered to an offensive stalwart in Dallas.
