The Georgia Bulldogs are on a collision course with Alabama in the SEC Championship game.

But first thing’s first – they need to beat a team that has had their number.

Georgia takes on Florida in Jacksonville on Saturday, as this year’s “World’s Largest Outdoor Cocktail Party” has College Football Playoff implications.

The Bulldogs are unbeaten, ranked No. 3 in the country and have a 1.5-game lead in the SEC East Division. There are some big tests coming up before any conference title game, namely showdowns at Auburn and at Georgia Tech.

But Georgia has lost three straight to Florida, all by double digits.

The Gators are only 3-3 on the season, but have lost two straight by a combined three points. SEC East hopes remain alive with a win.

But this is a rivalry game. And Florida players have fired the first shots.

"We haven't lost to Georgia in the last three years, our seniors have never lost to Georgia so I think that mentality that they bring, being that they've never lost to Georgia, that brings a lot of confidence to us, just knowing that Georgia isn't a team that we lose to," freshman WR Joshua Hammond said. "So I think that's the message in the locker room right now: They might be the No. 2 team in the country, but they can't beat Florida.”

Florida DB Chauncey Gardner made it more personal, going after Georgia freshman QB Jake Fromm.

“I mean, you say they have a great quarterback – I get it. He’s throwing simple passes – I get it. Anybody can throw a slant – I get it," Gardner said. "If you call him the best quarterback, so be it, but he has to play Saturday. We’re going to see what his best attribute is.”

Fromm leads the SEC in passing rating (170.4) with 1,162 yards, 12 TDs and three INTs.

Elsewhere, bad news for an Ole Miss team scrapping for a bowl bid at 3-4 overall. The Rebels must forge on without star QB Shea Patterson, out for the season after suffering a knee injury in Saturday’s loss to LSU. Patterson leads the SEC with 322.7 passing yards per game.

The top three teams in the SEC West standings -- Alabama, Auburn and LSU -- are off this week with byes. Texas A&M can move into a tie for second place at 4-1 in the West with a win over Mississippi State.
