2023 Wyndham Championship betting guide: Expert best bets, picks and predictions for this week's PGA Tour regular-season finale

PGA Tour players have one final chance to make the FedEx Cup playoffs at the Wyndham Championship, which tees off Thursday at Sedgefield Country Club. Here's everything you need to know so you can cash in big.

It's now or never for the PGA Tour players who have yet to qualify for the FedEx Cup Playoffs, with the last chance coming this week at the 2023 Wyndham Championship. The tournament tees off Thursday at Sedgefield Country Club in Greensboro, N.C., and Justin Thomas will be the center of attention this week.

The two-time major winner and 2017 FedEx Cup champion missed the cut at last week's 3M Open. He sits 79th in the FedEx Cup Standings entering the 2023 Wyndham Championship. Thomas has five missed cuts, a tie for 65th and a T-60 in his past eight outings. The only bright spot was a T-9 at the Travelers. Now he fights for his life to make the playoffs and earn a Ryder Cup spot. Thomas hasn't cracked the top 50 in three appearances at Sedgefield, the most recent in 2016.

Many top PGA Tour pros are solidly in the playoffs and are skipping Wyndham Championship 2023. That includes defending champion Tom Kim, who won by five strokes in 2022 to become the second-youngest PGA Tour winner in more than 75 years. The 20-year-old shot an almost-unfathomable 27 on the front nine in the final round and shot 61 to finish at 20 under par.

Other stars in the 2023 Wyndham Championship field include Sam Burns, Sungjae Im, Hideki Matsuyama and Shane Lowry. Burns is the highest-ranked player competing this week at No. 20, and 14 of the top 50 are teeing off at Sedgefield.

Im is the 16-1 favorite in Caesars Sportsbook's latest 2023 Wyndham Championship odds, with Matsuyama right behind at 18-1. Burns is priced at 20-1, while Thomas is 28-1 in this week's PGA Tour odds, behind players like Lowry (22-1) and Adam Scott (22-1). (For the latest golf coverage any time, head over to SportsLine)

The PGA Tour dropped the playoffs to the top 70 from 125 for this season. That means Englishman Ben Taylor is in on the bubble at No. 70, with Sam Ryder, Sam Stevens and Austin Eckroat just in front of him at Nos. 67-69. All four are in this week's field. Ben Griffin is just 2.5 points behind Taylor in 71st, and Cam Davis is six points behind the Englishman. Lowry, who chose to skip last week's 3M Open, is 76th in the standings.

Last season, Matt Wallace (124) and Austin Smotherman (125) were knocked out, with Max McGreevy and Kim moving on to the FedEx Cup St. Jude Championship. Justin Lower missed a 6-foot putt on the final hole that would have earned him a playoff spot.

Sedgefield is a 7,131-yard par-70 course designed by Donald Ross that rewards precise iron play and steady putting. The numerous short par-4s essentially take distance out of play, and the small, undulating greens put a lot of pressure on the short game. Scores can go very low, as Brandt Snedker showed with his 59 in the first round in 2018. Six of the past seven winners have gone at least 20 under par.

In this 2023 Wyndham Championship betting guide, we'll take you through what you need to know about the rest of the field of competitors, the course itself and any projected weather considerations before diving into SportsLine's full slate of expert picks for the event. That includes outright winners with top longshot plays, as well as first-round leader, matchup and finishing position best bets.

You'll also find our projected leaderboard, One and Done picks, DFS picks and Fantasy rankings from our stable of experts, including Mike McClure, Sia Nejad, Eric Cohen, Patrick McDonald and Jim Holliman.

    • Mike McClure is a professional DFS player and SportsLine predictive data engineer, specializing in advanced statistical analysis. His golf proprietary model is up almost $10,000 on its best bets since the PGA Tour resumed in June of 2020, nailing tournament after tournament.
    • Sia Nejad specializes in betting and DFS in golf, among other sports. He's had incredible success in the outright and first-round leader markets. He also has been on fire on head-to-head matchups since the Charles Schwab Challenge, going 20-9-1 (+9.19 units) over that span.
    • Eric Cohen is an avid golf bettor who correctly predicted the winner of three of the past four majors and nailed Scottie Scheffler's first career victory in Phoenix last year. He is a regular guest on "The Early Wedge" SportsLine golf show on YouTube.
    • Patrick McDonald joined CBS Sports as a golf writer in 2022 and still likes to dip his toes into the betting pools on a weekly basis on the PGA Tour. He was up almost 17 units this season before the Masters -- a haul of nearly $1,700 for $100 bettors -- and now he's back to cash more tickets for SportsLine readers.
    • Jim Holliman is a longtime writer and editor who has played the game for nearly three decades, and he has a strong feel for how the players fit each course. He has nailed four winners since the Masters and has a knack for finding longshots who can contend and help fantasy players, including Garrick Higgo (75-1), who cracked the top 15 last week.
