2022 Tour Championship field, odds, picks: PGA Tour best bets and predictions from golf expert who loves the longshots

Jim Holliman, who has been around the game for more than three decades, backed Patrick Cantlay to win last week, and now he offers his winners and long-shot contenders for the playoff finale at East Lake Golf Club

East Lake Golf Club in Atlanta is the final stop for the PGA Tour, and the ultimate prize and a major payday will be on the line starting Thursday in the 2022 Tour Championship. The top 30 players in the standings advanced to final event of the tour's FedEx Cup Playoffs, and the Tour Championship 2022 winner will take the season-long title and earn a check for $18 million. Patrick Cantlay won the title last season and comes in off his BMW Championship win last week. But he will start two strokes behind Masters champion and world No. 1 Scottie Scheffler in the FedEx Cup Starting Strokes format. Scheffler will begin the week at 10 under par, followed by Cantlay (8 under), Will Zalatoris (-7), Xander Schauffele (-6) and Sam Burns (-5).

Scheffler is the 12-5 favorite to win the FedEx Cup title in the latest 2022 Tour Championship odds from Caesars Sportsbook, followed by Cantlay (18-5) and Schauffele (7-1). In the odds to win the tournament without the starting strokes, Caesars lists Rory McIlroy (8-1) ahead of both Scheffler (10-1) and Cantlay (10-1). Jon Rahm (10-1), Schauffele (10-1) and Justin Thomas (14-1) also are among the favorites to win Tour Championship 2022 without starting strokes.

Before you consider any 2022 Tour Championship picks or make any PGA Tour predictions, you really need to see what golf expert Jim Holliman has to say.

Holliman has been a writer and editor for nearly 25 years and has been playing and following the game closely for more than three decades. The Florida-based writer knows what it takes to win on the PGA Tour and how the players' games fit the courses.

The golf expert had Cantlay (14-1) among his best bets at the BMW Championship despite his hiccup the previous week at the St. Jude (T-57). "His consistency is his strength, and he has the all-around game to win anywhere," the expert said. The defending champion was rock-solid in the final round and showed his grit on the final two holes to become the first to defend a tournament title in the 16-year history of the FedEx Cup playoffs.

The expert also was behind Zalatoris (28-1) at the St. Jude and also NAILED the Wyndham Championship, with Joohyung Kim (35-1) among his selections. "It's a matter of when (not if) he gets his first on the PGA Tour," Holliman said of Kim. It turned out to be at Sedgfield, where the 20-year-old won by five strokes.

The expert also has had a knack for finding the longshots. At the St. Jude, as many top stars went home early, 200-1 shot Chez Reavie made the weekend. At the 3M Open, the expert tabbed Emiliano Grillo (50-1) as a contender before the Argentinian finished T-2. And before the PGA, he touted Cameron Young (65-1) before his T-3 finish. Anyone who has followed Holliman's predictions is WAY UP!

Now, Holliman has released his confident 2022 Tour Championship picks. SHOCKINGLY, the golf expert is fading Scheffler, even though he will start the week with a two-stroke lead! That lead can evaporate very quickly, and Scheffler hadn't been in top form before his strong showing at the BMW. The expert is looking for him falter just enough for the title to slip away!

Instead, the golf expert is touting a MASSIVE longshot who comes in at well over 60-1 odds! This golfer has been rolling, and he should challenge for the best 72-hole score despite the lack of respect he is getting from oddsmakers. If he pulls off what would be a STUNNING result, anyone who backs this underdog would cash in HUGE!
