2022 MLB RBI leader odds: Mets' Pete Alonso betting favorite as second half begins

The Mets' Pete Alonso is the one to beat for baseball's RBI crown.

With the second half of the 2022 MLB season beginning today, we continue our look at some individual statistical leader odds at Caesars Sportsbook with the runs batted in champion prop. Mets All-Star first baseman Pete Alonso tops the majors with 78 RBI – a team record in the first half of a season – and is the +200 favorite. New York's first game post-break is Friday at home vs. San Diego.

Alonso, who came up short of winning a historic third straight All-Star Home Run Derby on Monday night at Dodger Stadium, is on pace for about 137 RBI if he plays every game in the second half – Alonso has played in 92 of the Mets' 93 games thus far. The single-season franchise record for RBI is 124 by Mike Piazza in 1999 and David Wright in 2008. Alonso leads the majors with 14 game-winning RBI and 20 go-ahead RBI this season.

Alonso's overall career high is 120 RBI in his 2019 NL Rookie of the Year campaign. Washington's Anthony Rendon (now with Angels) led the NL and majors that year with 126. Kansas City catcher Salvador Perez led MLB last year with 121. No Mets player has led MLB in that category. Howard Johnson led the NL with 117 in 1991, but Detroit's Cecil Fielder topped the majors with 133. The single-season MLB record is safe forever in my opinion: 191 by the Cubs' Hack Wilson in 1930.

The Guardians' Jose Ramirez is next on the RBI prop at +300, followed by the Yankees' Aaron Judge at +500, Cardinals' Paul Goldschmidt at +700 and Rockies' CJ Cron at +1000.

Ramirez is second with 75 RBI and has played in five fewer games (87) than Alonso. Ramirez became the fourth Cleveland player with 75 or more RBI prior to the All-Star break, joining Manny Ramirez (96 in 1999), Juan Gonzalez (83 in 2001) and Albert Belle (76 in 1994). Jose Ramirez's three games with at least five RBI this season are tied with Alonso for the most in baseball. Manny Ramirez finished with 165 in 1999, the last time a Cleveland player led the majors in RBI.

One interesting name is Dodgers shortstop Trea Turner at +1500. He's not exactly a huge power guy, but is sixth with 68 RBI and also the betting favorite to lead the majors in hits. Alonso's teammate Francisco Lindor is +2000 and seventh with 66 RBI. Those 66 RBIs set a Mets record by a mile for the most by a shortstop before the All-Star break. Lindor had just 63 RBIs all last season and his career high is 92.
