Tigers ace Tarik Skubal takes the mound against the Rangers, and he's picked up where he left off last year with two scoreless outings in his three starts. Skubal ended last year by allowing just one earned run in his final four starts, and aside from a couple late homers by the A's in his second outing, he's been almost untouchable. The Tigers have the clear pitching edge in this matchup, and I think it's worth making a F5 play here if you don't like the money line.
For me, this was between playing Tigers ace Tarik Skubal around -130 to go at least six innings or Detroit winning. Obviously the Tigers can win even if Skubal doesn't go six -- and while I tend to think he does, the lefty can get wild at times and because of it was limited to five last time out. If he does go a strong six, Detroit should win. Rangers starter Dane Dunning has horrible career numbers at Comerica Park, which is somewhat hard to do considering the Tigers haven't been very good for years.
Dane Dunning only had three strikeouts in his last start against the Astros. However, he had seven strikeouts in both of his first two starts. The Tigers don’t do a great job of making contact, which has resulted in them striking out the ninth-most times in baseball. Dunning faced them two times last season and posted at least six strikeouts in both outings. There’s plenty of juice here, but I’ll pay it and take the over.
This Rangers lineup has not caught fire yet and Skubal will be tough on them from the left side. TEX is 10th in the AL in OPS vs lefties and this one is nastier than most. Skubal eliminated the free pass in his last outing which really helped. but he's going 6 and throwing over 90 pitches with regularity. Like him in day games as well, where his stuff tends to be even tougher to pick up
