These teams met around this time in 2017 and it was the game that Carson Wentz was lost for the season and Nick Foles jumped in late to win the game, 43-35. A lot has changed since then. The Rams look better and the Eagles are still in Super Bowl hangover mode. But we've got great weather and both defenses have struggled lately so I'm looking for an offensive show, again, with Foles making the most of the opportunity. Over is the top play.
The public has bumped up the line from 8.5 in large part because of ailing QB Carson Wentz (back). Though likely starter Nick Foles represents a step down, he did, after all, help deliver a Super Bowl title. The Eagles, on the edge of elimination from playoff consideration, figure to go down with a fight; six of their seven losses have ended in one-possession margins, two of them in overtime. L.A. has failed to cover in the last four home dates and has been bitten by the turnover bug.
I was a big fan of this play before the Carson Wentz injury was announced, and I'm an even bigger fan of it now. The total was set too high from the jump and it hasn't moved at all since the Wentz news broke. I know Nick Foles won a Super Bowl with this team last year, but he didn't play well while filling in for Wentz to open the season, and I'm not expecting that to change against this Rams defense. The spread has grown a bit too large for my comfort, but I love the value on the Under.
This is a ton of points. Nick Foles can play and the team responds to him. The Rams should win but they don't run it up. Grab the points.
Both teams enter this game needing wins to get back on track. The Rams already have their playoff ticket punched, while the Eagles are still clinging to playoff life. Maybe it was the Saints or the Bears that provided the league with the blueprint on how to beat the Rams, but whoever gets the credit, you have to believe that the defensive line does like this matchup against the skittish Jared Goff. While the Rams defense will be able to have success against the Eagles offense, it'll be the Rams offense once again being the story. This time, look for head coach Sean McVay to remember he has the best back in this game in Todd Gurley.
