Although there's little doubt the Steelers will be a very popular public side Sunday, I also believe they are the correct side. Cleveland has added some solid pieces through the draft and free agency, but ti still doesn't bode well to start a rookie QB against a quality opponent. Moreover, I don't see the Browns getting enough stops against Pittsburgh's high-powered offense to stay within this number.
Spotting a home team nearly double digits goes against every fiber of my being. Ah, but what is a rule if it’s never broken? The tipping point was an ankle injury in practice to the No. 1 overall draft pick, DE Myles Garrett, who was one of a few reasons to smile during the summer in Browns-ville. The revolving door at Cleveland’s QB position has stopped, and rookie DeShone Kizer hesitantly steps out. He was no world-beater at Notre Dame, and he can prepare for a beating from the league’s No. 3 defense a year ago. Cleveland has covered just three of its past 19 openers, and the Steelers set sail last season with a 22-point pasting of the Redskins.
I'm projecting 42 points for Steelers-Browns, giving us a solid play on the Under. Pittsburgh will frustrate Browns rookie QB DeShone Kizer, and Cleveland's restocked defense can keep this from getting way out of hand.
Lay the points with the Steelers, as they're covering 60 percent of my simulations and a good bet to win by two touchdowns. Rookie QB DeShone Kizer won't be ready for this improved Steelers' defense.
