What an incredible start to the season for the Pirates, winning six of seven on the road. Of course, the competition was very weak and that changes with the Orioles coming to Pittsburgh. Grayson Rodriguez takes the ball for the Orioles and he's an ace in front of a rested bullpen with an offense that never says die. The Pirates send young, promising righty Jared Jones to the mound and it's possible he'll throw well. I still give the pitching advantage to the Orioles and they are the overall better team. The Pirates are due a little evening out after that trip, too.
Jared Jones had an amazing spring with six outings and three starts pitching 16 innings and no runs allowed. Then he came out with his first start and pitched 5.2 innings allowing three runs and three hits with 10 strikeouts. He got the win in 93 pitches. I like the Pirates to win today and continue their hot streak and the great start to the season.
I played the Orioles at -130 on SuperBook and would still play them up to -138 in this matchup. Jared Jones is a respected prospect that looked good in his first appearance, but I have some concerns about the youngster who will really only feature two pitches (slider and 4-seam fastball). My simulations make the Orioles 59 percent winners behind Rodriguez, which suggests this line should be -144.
