I'm jumping in to get a piece of the underdog here as the number continues to climb for the favorite. Both teams have been efficient on both ends of the ball and are playing at high levels heading into the ACC championship. But Clemson hasn’t played well ATS as a large favorite against quality opponents, and the Hokies have the firepower to keep up with the Tigers on the scoreboard. This is a good value spot for a Virginia Tech team that is peaking right now.
The easy thing to say is that the Tigers want to send a message to the CFB Playoff committee and want to make a statement, but the reality is that when they’ve faced good teams this year (Louisville, Florida State, Pitt), all the games have been close. Expect nothing different against a very tough, Hokies squad. Take Virginia Tech and the points.
The Hokies haven't been to this stage since 2011, but I believe in Justin Fuentes. He's transformed a team that was picked to finish fourth in the Coastal Division. Virginia Tech is averaging 34.3 points over its past six games, and at this key number, I'll back the Hokies to make it competitive with Clemson.
First-year coach Justin Fuente has the Hokies riding high, winners of five of their last six. They just crushed rival Virginia by 42 points. While Clemson is clearly more talented, Virginia Tech should be very competitive according to my projections. The Hokies stay within this number in 68 percent of my simulations.
