Philadelphia Eagles-Los Angeles Rams Odds and Picks Against the Spread
Which team has the upper hand in this battle of NFC breakout clubs? SportsLine has your breakdown.
PHILADELPHIA EAGLES AT LOS ANGELES RAMS (-2.5, O/U 50), Sun., 4:25 p.m. ET
In perhaps their biggest test so far this season, the Philadelphia Eagles stumbled in prime time with a 24-10 road loss to Seattle.
They appeared hampered by conservative play calling and a leaky secondary, and suffered a two-touchdown loss despite a big second half from Carson Wentz.
Conversely, the Los Angeles Rams -- Philadelphia's upstart counterpart in the NFC – kept their hot streak going with a 32-16 win at Arizona.
The Rams (9-3), who have won six of seven, host the Eagles (10-2) on Sunday in a potential NFC title game preview, one few observers predicted before the season kicked off.
LINE MOVEMENTS AND TRENDS
This line opened at Rams -1 in most markets, with early support for the home favorite quickly pushing it to -2.5 as of Wednesday afternoon. This spread appears to be headed toward the key number of 3, unless there is serious support for the Eagles at +2.5. The total opened at 51 in most spots, but 50 is now the most popular offering.
The home team has covered seven of the last 10 in this series, while the Eagles have covered in four straight. The Rams are on an 8-3-1 ATS run at home against winning opponents.
BREAKDOWN
These teams are extremely evenly matched, as they are tied for the top scoring average in the NFL at 30.1 points per game.
Defensive numbers also are nearly identical, with the Eagles yielding 17.9 points per game and the Rams allowing 18.5.
The Eagles' somewhat conservative game plan allowed Seattle to get off the field in several short-yardage situations, limiting possessions for their dangerous offense.
The Rams were solid on offense, as Jared Goff threw for 220 yards and two touchdowns. But their defense was the difference, getting two interceptions and returning one for a touchdown and an early 16-0 lead.
Todd Gurley had 74 yards on 19 carries, and the Rams will likely need a big game from him to provide balance against the NFL’s top run defense (68.1 yards per game).
