In the search for possible NFL teaser plays, one fractional number on the oddsboard generally jumps off the page (or screen): 1.5.

Any underdog by one-and-a-hook facing a good team is good in its own right. Add six points to the spread, and you've been blessed with a win even if your chosen 'dog loses by a touchdown.

A pair of 1.5s greets us in Week 8. Will one of them be used in our spread teaser? What are we teasing in the Sunday/Monday night doubleheader? We'll share our totals teaser before we answer those questions.

Totals teaser: 49ers-Bears Over 33.5, Jaguars-Seahawks Under 50

As awful as the 49ers and Bears offenses are, only two of each team's games have failed to clear this number. The league drags out a couple of such low-scoring games each week, though they are rarely the matchups that you might expect (i.e., Titans over Chiefs 27-3). San Fran is prepared to send out rookie Trey Lance if Jimmy Garoppolo flops early. Jimmy G should get a jolt of confidence with QB-haunting LB Khalil Mack (foot) out.

Seattle has rinsed out much of its passing calls from the playbook as QB Geno Smith, the unfortunate soul trying to fill Russell Wilson's shoes, has endured 10 sacks the past two weeks. He threw on 45 percent of snaps, the lowest rate in the league. The Jaguars' D is tied for fourth in fewest rush yards per attempt, so good luck with that. Jacksonville had not scored more than 21 until it recently exploded for 23 against Miami -- thanks to a buzzer-beating field goal.
