The Saints' Week 1 bulldozing of Green Bay mesmerized the betting public. Five touchdown passes for Jameis Winston! A measly three points for Aaron Rodgers and the Packers against New Orleans' defense! A confirmed spot in the Hall of Fame for coach Sean Payton!

Oddsmakers reacted by setting the lookahead line for the Week 3 Saints versus Patriots matchup at even, in part discounting the fact that the game would be a third straight on the road for New Orleans while wrapping up a month away from their hurricane-stricken home. Also overlooked is that Winston might regress to the means in his second outing against a defense designed by Bill Belichick. That he did, in a 26-7 defeat to Carolina.

The Saints-Patriots spread opened this week at Patriots -3. For Pats backers who pounced on the lookahead line, that's a welcome shift. It illustrates the occasional gem of a wager that can be dug out by peeking at the spreads a week ahead.
