2020 Toronto Blue Jays Preview: Projected rotation, starting lineup, prospects, win total

John Bollman

Toronto Blue Jays

2019 record: 67-95

Record in one-run games: 18-23

O/U win total from Willam Hill: 75.5

Key Additions: Hyun-Jin Ryu, Tanner Roark, Chase Anderson, Shun Yamaguchi, Travis Shaw, Joe Panik

Key Losses: Justin Smoak, Clay Bucholtz

Toronto is looking to finally take that next step towards .500 before becoming a playoff contending team. They made a splash in free agency by signing Hyun-Jin Ryu, Tanner Roark, and Japanese prospect Shun Yamaguchi to multi-year deals.

Projected Rotation

1) Hyun-Jin Ryu

2) Tanner Roark

3) Chase Anderson

4) Matt Shoemaker

5) Trent Thornton/Shun Yamaguchi

The Blue Jays were victimized by their starting pitching depth last season, and they were clearly active in that area. They added Ryu, Roark and Anderson to become their top three in the rotation. They have Matt Shoemaker coming back from injury, to go with a lot of options in the fifth starter spot.

Fantasy-relevant relievers

Ken Giles (projected 38 saves, 2.57 ERA)

Major League-ready prospects

Nate Pearson (SP), Anthony Kay (SP), TJ Zeuch (SP)

Projected Lineup

1) Bo Bichette

2) Cavan Biggio

3) Lourdes Gurriel Jr.

4) Vladimir Guerrero Jr.

5) Randall Grichuk

6) Rowdy Tellez

7) Teoscar Hernandez

8) Travis Shaw

9) Danny Jansen

This lineup will be in place for a long time, with seven of the nine making their debut in the last two years. The Blue Jays built from within, and this is the lineup they've been envisioning for years. They should be much improved in run scoring with a full year of their top four batters, and they will be able to matchup with just about anybody.

Key bench players

Brandon Drury, Derek Fisher
