Cleveland Browns defensive end Myles Garrett has been getting his hits -- both legal and illegal ones -- on quarterbacks this season. And on Saturday he paid for the illegal ones. The pass rushing freak and former No. 1 overall pick was fined $42,112 by the NFL for two roughing the passer penalties he had against New York Jets quarterback Trevor Siemian in the Browns' 23-3 victory on Monday night.

Garrett, who leads the league with five sacks through two weeks, was fined $21,056 for each of the two roughing the passer penalties against Siemian. On the second hit, the quarterback suffered torn ankle ligaments that will force him to miss the rest of the season.

Garrett had previously been fined $10,527 for hitting Tennessee Titans tight end Delanie Walker in the facemask with an open hand in Cleveland's Week 1 loss.

On Wednesday, Garrett denied being a dirty player.

"I know who I am, and the guys within these walls know who I am, and that's not me," Garrett said. "I'm not going to do anything to try to hurt this team or take out any player outside of the rule book. I'm just gonna keep on playing the game that's supposed to be played."

He also expressed remorse over causing the season-ending injury to Siemian.

"First of all, I want to wish @TrevorSiemian a speedy recovery," he tweeted immediately after the game. "We put our bodies on the line every single snap, and I wouldn't wish an injury on anyone."

Garrett said he needs to be more mindful when making hits.

"You want to play aggressive, you want to play passionate," he said. "You just want to finish the play. I'm going to keep on playing with that same aggressiveness, I've just going to be smarter: better in the strike zone and trying to pull off so I don't land on him with all my weight."

On Sunday, Garrett and the Browns face the defending NFC champion Los Angeles Rams at FirstEnergy Stadium in Cleveland.
