Raptors vs. Mavericks Friday NBA odds, props: Luka Doncic on historic scoring streak, set at 31.5 points

Mavericks star Luka Doncic has been unstoppable in the early going.

Last season, the Dallas Mavericks and star Luka Doncic both started a bit slowly because Doncic admitted he didn't work out much at all during the summer and wasn't in shape. That hasn't been an issue this year and it has shown, as Doncic is on a historic scoring streak entering Friday's home game against the Toronto Raptors. He is set at over/under 31.5 points.

Doncic put up 33 points In Wednesday's 103-100 win over Utah and has scored at least 30 in each of his team's first seven games. No one had done that since Wilt Chamberlain in 1962-63 when the Stilt had an absurd 23 in a row. That record is probably safe. Doncic could tie Chamberlain for the second-longest streak at eight in a row on Friday. Jack Twyman in 1959-60 is the only other player with seven in a row.

"That's rare air and we get to see that on a nightly basis," Mavs coach Jason Kidd said Wednesday's win. "That's pretty cool. A 23-year-old kid that is playing on this level is really, really special to see. He can do it in so many ways, when you talk about posting up or getting to the basket, shooting the 3 or shooting that little step back."

On the season, Doncic is averaging a league-best 36.1 points. That's the third highest-scoring average through seven games in the last 60 seasons behind Michael Jordan (37.0 in 1986-87) and James Harden (36.6 in 2019-20). Doncic is also averaging 9.0 assists and 8.9 rebounds, yet isn't even the MVP favorite at Caesars. He's +300, just behind Milwaukee's Giannis Antetokounmpo (+290).

Doncic has done something no player had ever done through the first seven games. He's totaled at least 250 points, 50 rebounds and 50 assists – he's currently at 253 points, 62 rebounds and 63 assists. Doncic is averaging 26.6 points, 10.3 rebounds and 8.6 assists in seven career games against the Raptors with two triple-doubles. He's +311 for one tonight.

One significant injury note for this game: Raptors All-Star point guard Fred VanVleet has missed the past two with back troubles and is questionable. Toronto hasn't missed him yet, scoring 139 points in a blowout of Atlanta on Monday and 143 in a destruction of San Antonio on Wednesday.
