If we honor this competition's essence -- fierceness -- it's hard to imagine Roary, the Detroit Lions' oversized mascot not making it through. He's 10 paws tall, "heavy," and has a shoe size "bigger than Shaq." As round one scribe Ron Davis points out, Roary also likes extreme activities like mechanical bull riding and various snow sports.
But there's some darker motivation driving this stuffed feline. This Lions gig he has, it's just a stop on the ambitious cat's career path. Like Simba (his favorite movie is The Lion king) before him, Roary wants to be "king of the jungle," which begs the question: Will Roary put his heart into this competition?
Chief Zee, while not a true mascot (technically he's a Hall of Fame superfan), has shown, time after time, his heart pumps burgundy and gold blood. Check out this snipped from the Washington Times: "This is the first time Mr. (Zema) Williams has been injured since a game at Philadelphia in 1983, when angry Eagles fans attacked him, breaking his leg, tearing off his original Indian costume and leaving him hospitalized. Fans donated money for his recovery. He never missed a game."
Chief Zee carries a tomahawk, honors fallen superfans (even Dallas ones), and most importantly, will help you save money on your 
next used-car purchase. He's also 66ish, had a big toe amputated (which means he now relies on a moped to scoot him around the parking lot) and two years ago survived some pretty serious medical maladies.
He may never be 100 percent again, but like Jimmy McGinty used to say, "Heart... miles and miles of heart." That's what Chief Zee has.
