SPiN Expert Picks: Super Bowl XLII

What exactly constitutes an "expert"? That is what we aim to debunk here on SPiN Expert Picks. Our select group of "anti-experts" -- a dog, a quarter, slips of paper inside a hat and a non-sports fan -- aim to put CBSSports.com NFL experts on notice ... for your weekly entertainment.

Super Bowl
ROLAND LIWAG, SPiN PRODUCER
"After seeing how Philly almost beat N.E., the Ravens, Steelers, Chargers and Giants all tried the same "blueprint." Did it work? No. You have to play a perfect game to beat the Pats. Will the Giants, this time around? No."
Regular season record: 140-115 | Playoff record: 6-4

SPiN DOG
Since I started this feature, I've seen a sports network from Conn. make a cat pick college football games and a 24/7 cable news network from Atlanta feature a camel that makes Super Bowl picks. Well, dog > camel > cat.
Regular season record: 131-124 | Playoff record: 6-4

SPiN COIN
This is the same quarter I've used since Week 1. More than 20 weeks later, the quarter is tied for second place among SPiN NFL Anti-Experts and has done better than two out of five CBSSports.com NFL experts. Not too bad.
Regular season record: 135-120 | Playoff record: 5-5

SPiN HAT
Drawing slips of paper out of a straw hat resulted in a three-games-over-.500 result and a split performance in the playoffs, a great feat considering NFL Producer Ron Davis only went 124-141 for the season.
Regular season record: 129-126 | Playoff record: 5-5

NON-SPORTS FAN
"I pick the Patriots because they've had a perfect season so far. They'll do what's unheard of, or whatever. Isn't Tom Brady on the team? And isn't he the quarterback? He's no Brett Favre, but he's led a pretty good season."
Regular season record: 135-120 | Playoff record: 5-5

Introducing the SPiN "anti-experts"
Roland Liwag: As the SPiN Producer, my picks are based on information I have access to at CBS Sports.
SPiN Dog: I put two pieces of paper with team logos in front of my dog. Whatever logo she paws at is her pick.
Coin Toss: Home teams are heads and away teams are tails. I flip a quarter and the coin decides the winner.
Picking From Hat: I write team names on slips of paper, put it inside a hat, shuffle it and draw names.
Non-Sports Fan: I picked someone who knows nothing about sports. Her picks are 100 percent guesses.

The Sports Psychic: Guest expert for NFL Week 9. She went 7-7 against the spread.
The Baby: Guest expert for NFL Week 10. She went 12-2 against the spread.
Jennifer Walcott: Guest expert for NFL Week 13. She went 6-10 against the spread.
