The Olympic Aquatics Centre located at the Athens Olympic Sports Complex in Maroussi, will host the ever-popular swimming, water polo, synchronised swimming and diving events. The Centre consists of two outdoor and one indoor pool: one outdoor swimming pool for the swimming and water polo contests with a capacity of 11,000 seats, the new outdoor pool with a capacity of 5,000 seats for synchronised swimming, and the indoor pool of 6,500 seats, where water polo and diving will take place. The General Secretariat of Sports will undertake the renovations. The Olympic Aquatic Centre is expected to be ready by the end of 2003.
Schinias Olympic Rowing and Canoeing Centre
The Olympic Rowing and Canoeing Centre currently under construction is located at Schinias, on the northeast part of the Attica region. The main part of the lake which will host the Rowing and Canoe / Kayak competitions will be 2,222 metres long and will be linked to a smaller auxiliary lake, which will serve for training and warm-up purposes. The ground soil made lake system will be 3.5 and 2 metres deep respectively.
Olympic Canoe Kayak Slalom Centre
The Olympic Canoe Kayak Slalom Centre is located within the Helliniko Olympic Complex, in the south of Athens and will accommodate 5,000 Canoe Kayak Slalom fans. Although it is a new construction, it is expected to be completed by the Ministry of Environment, Public Welfare and Public Works by January 2004.
Agios Kosmas Olympic Sailing Centre
The Olympic Sailing Centre, located in Agios Kosmas, a coastal area in southern Attica, is the place where the sailing contest will take place. By January 2004, the Ministry of Environment, Public Welfare and Public Works will complete this new temporary construction, with a capacity of 3,000 seats for sailing fans worldwide. During the 2004 Olympic Games the weather will favour the sailing contest both for athletes and spectators, making the experience unforgettable.
