In one form or another, Les Miles has been on a football field every year since the 1970s.
He worked his way up the coaching ranks with stops at Colorado, Michigan and with the Dallas Cowboys before getting his first head-coaching opportunity with Oklahoma State in 2001. He then moved on to LSU in 2005, where we won a national title in 2007 to go along with a couple of league crowns (2007, 2011).
But in the what have you done for me lately world of the SEC, Miles didn't live up to LSU standards in his final three years -- going 8-5, 9-3 and then 2-2 over his last three seasons, the last of which was cut short by a midseason firing.
Still a spry 63-year old with plenty of great one-liners and jumbled up sentences, Miles has expressed interest in returning to the field in 2018 after his 2017 search didn't yield any results.
He was a reported candidate at Baylor, Purdue and other spots, but nothing came to fruition last offseason.

Market-setting offshore sportsbook BookMaker.eu has released odds on Miles' occupation for 2018, and there's a clear-cut favorite.
NCAA Coach -350 (risk $350 to gain $100)
Media Analyst +250 (risk $100 to gain $250)
No Football Job +1500
NFL Coach +3500
While a return to the NCAA is the odds-on pick, it would also be easy to see the affable Miles as an analyst who could draw big ratings.
CBS SPORTS: FIVE COACHES ON THE HOT SEAT
The best bet on this list, however, might be 'no football job' at +1,500. It's tough to envision a coach with a national title ring not getting another opportunity, but Miles is also well-known for being a family man, and perhaps a year off the field will change his perspective.
With a title to his name, millions of dollars in the bank and top-tier offers likely not coming his way, perhaps The Hat might hang it up for good.
