Although I'd rarely lay this many points in a rivalry game against an extremely strong opponent, I’m going to support Oklahoma against Oklahoma State on Saturday in the default Big 12 title game. The Sooners suffered two losses early, but are now playing like the top-five team many expected to see all season. They are the definition of a longshot for the playoff, but can make a case as a conference champion peaking at season’s end. Oklahoma pulls away by two touchdowns-plus in this shootout.
The Cowboys are much healthier for this rivalry game than they were last year, and the road team has covered four straight in this series. Mason Rudolph will somewhat keep pace with Baker Mayfield. And OSU's special teams edge should help the Cowboys stay within the number.
The road team has covered the past four meetings and that's the way I'm going here just because Oklahoma State has been playing so well behind Mason Rudolph with his 19 TDs and two picks during the Cowboys' seven-game win streak. The Sooners have won eight straight (4-4 ATS) since losing to Ohio State and Baker Mayfield has also been sensational. But this is just too many points to give Oklahoma State. The 9-2 Sooners are wondering how Michigan can go 1-2 in its last three games and still be way ahead of them in polls. This could be a flat spot despite the rivalry.
This one features two of the best WRs around in Oklahoma’s Dede Westbrook and OSU’s James Washington. The deciding factor in the Bedlam game is defense. And if we’re being honest, the Cowboys have been better defensively, especially along the defensive line. Look for the Cowboys' defense to frustrate Baker Mayfield as OSU covers.
