England vs. United States 2022 World Cup odds, trends: Bettors like USA to upset, Christian Pulisic to score

Don't be surprised if Friday afternoon's Group B World Cup match between England and the United States (2 p.m. ET) is the most-wagered and most-watched game involving Team USA in men's soccer history. Most people having Black Friday off and the opponent makes the match all the more tantalizing. The English are tied for first atop the group and would be guaranteed a spot in the knockout round with a win.

At Caesars Sportsbook, 65% of the tickets to win the match are on the USA at +575, but England (-195) has received 56% of the handle. A draw (+295) is taking 15% of tickets and 9% of money. For an anytime goalscorer, American star Christian Pulisic is +400 and taking the most tickets at 24%, followed by England's Harry Kane (-105) at 19% and Raheem Sterling (+210) at 18%.

Kane didn't score in England's opening 6-2 win over Iran but Sterling did. Sterling is taking the most money for an anytime scorer at 28% followed by Pulisic at 22% and Kane at 21%. Kane was substituted after 14 minutes against Iran due to an ankle injury but is expected to play Friday.

These sides have met in the World Cup just twice previously, and the Americans have yet to lose (a 1950 upset in Brazil and a 2010 draw in South Africa). Almost half the 26-man U.S. roster has English ties.

"It's obviously a huge opportunity to fast-track the impact that we can have," captain Tyler Adams said. "These are the games where it's a high-pressure, privileged moment to step on the field against some of these guys. … It means a lot to the team because we've been trying to progress this thing along for the past three years and we've been moving in the right direction."

On the updated futures odds to win the tournament, the USA at +12500 has taken the most tickets at 15%, followed by Argentina (+800) at 14% and Brazil (+250) at 12%. For money wagered, the Argentines are on top at 22%, followed by Brazil at 16% and England at 9%.

Unless the U.S. beats England, it will have to beat Iran next Tuesday on the final day of the group to advance. The Iranians upset Wales this morning in Qatar 2-0 with two stoppage time goals in a big upset. Iran is now temporarily tied for first in Group B with three points.
