2023 Australian Open tennis men's final odds: Novak Djokovic heavy favorite vs. Stefanos Tsitsipas, can tie for most all-time Grand Slam titles
The 2023 Australian Open comes to a close with the men's singles final between No. 4 seed Novak Djokovic and No. 3 Stefanos Tsitsipas. The match starts of 3:30 a.m. Eastern in Melbourne on Sunday, and Djokovic is a -475 favorite at Caesars Sportsbook to win his record 10th Australian Open title and 22nd Grand Slam title, which would tie him with Rafael Nadal (the defending tournament champion) for the most in men's history. The winner of the match will jump to the global No.1 ranking.
The 35-year-old Djokovic won his 27th straight Australian Open match – a record in the Open Era (dates to 1968) – by beating American Tommy Paul 7-5, 6-1, 6-2 in the semifinals as a -2500 favorite. Djokovic has dropped just one set in this tournament, coming in a second-round tiebreaker against Enzo Couacaud. (Paul, incidentally, will earn a top-20 spot in the world ATP rankings for the first time.)
Djokovic couldn't play in Australia last year -- or at the French Open or US Open -- because he's not vaccinated for COVID. He won the Australian Open each time from 2019-21, so his last loss here was in the fourth round in 2018 to Hyeon Chung.
Greece's Tsitsipas eliminated No. 18 Karen Khachanov 7-6 (2), 6-4, 6-7 (6), 6-3 to reach his first final at Melbourne Park and second at a Grand Slam. The third seed faced just one break point in the final three sets to improve to 6-0 all-time against Khachanov, who was bidding to reach his first Slam final. The lone such final for Tsitsipas came at the 2021 French Open when he led Djokovic two sets to zero but lost in five – and really the final three sets weren't very close. The 24-year-old Tsitsipas is +330 to win this time.
Head-to-head all-time, Djokovic is 10-2 against Tsitsipas. They haven't met in the Australian Open and their last hardcourt meeting was at the ATP Finals last year in Italy, which Djokovic won in two sets (only a best-of-3). Tsitsipas' last win in the series was on outdoor hardcourts in 2019 in Shanghai.
The favored result for Sunday is Djokovic in three sets at +116. Tsitsipas winning in straight sets is a +1100 long shot. The over/under for total games is 36.5. Tsitsipas has a games handicap of +5.5.
