Washington vs. Giants NFL Week 6 spread, betting odds: Kyle Allen cleared to practice, will start at quarterback

Kyle Allen has been cleared to practice and thus start again under center for Washington in Week 6.

Washington head coach Ron Rivera made a change at starting quarterback for his team's Week 5 game vs. the Los Angeles Rams, going with Kyle Allen at No. 1 and Alex Smith as the No. 2. Former starter and 2019 first-round pick Dwayne Haskins was demoted all the way to No. 3. That depth chart will remain the same for a Week 6 matchup at the New York Giants as Allen was medically cleared to practice Wednesday. Washington is a 3-point underdog on the NFL odds.

Allen left the 30-10 loss to the Rams just before the two-minute warning in the first half following a big hit from L.A. cornerback Jalen Ramsey. He was kept out of the second half out of an "abundance of caution" on an arm injury, according to media reports. Allen played solid before leaving, completing 9-for-13 for 74 yards with no picks and a rushing TD. However, he slipped to 6-8 straight up as a starter in the league.

Rivera had said immediately after the game that Allen remained his starter if healthy, and that Allen will practice Wednesday solidifies that. Smith, meanwhile, threw his hat in the ring for NFL Comeback Player of the Year simply by taking the field in Week 5 for the first time in nearly two years off one of the most gruesome injuries in league history. Smith did look rusty, completing just 9-for-17 for 37 yards and being sacked six times, but that he even is playing again is amazing considering what he went through.

Washington's best offensive lineman, three-time Pro Bowl guard Brandon Scherff, hasn't played since suffering a knee injury in Week 2 but will return to practice this week. Potentially great news for Allen as Washington has allowed 21 sacks on the year, second-most in the league (Cincinnati 22).

Since a Week 1 27-17 home upset of the Eagles, the Washington Football Team hasn't scored more than 20 points in a game in losing four straight – all by at least 15 points. Washington ranks 30th in the league in scoring at 17.8 ppg. The Giants are actually worse off at 0-5 and 31st in scoring at 16.2 ppg. That is skewed by putting up 34 points in a Week 5 loss at Dallas.

The Over-Under total of 43 in this game is easily the NFL's lowest in Week 6.
