NFL Week 12 opening odds, lines, spreads: Chiefs (Patrick Mahomes) vs. Bucs (Tom Brady) could be Super Bowl 55 preview

One game clearly stands out on the Week 12 NFL schedule: Patrick Mahomes vs. Tom Brady.

With all due respect to Peyton Manning, the best quarterback in the NFL in the 2000s and 2010s was Tom Brady. It already seems pretty clear that Patrick Mahomes is going to be the guy for the 2020s and perhaps longer. Mahomes and Brady could meet for the final time ever, or in a potential preview of Super Bowl 55, on Sunday in the clear marquee game of Week 12. Kansas City opened as a 3-point favorite on the William Hill Sportsbook NFL odds. It's a 4:25 p.m. ET kickoff on CBS. That spread could change because the Bucs conclude Week 11 on Monday vs. the Rams.

Brady was almost NEVER a home underdog while with New England but it's the second time he is one already in 2020 with the Bucs. In Week 6, Tampa Bay was +3 vs. Green Bay but destroyed the Packers 38-10.

It should also be noted that Tampa's Raymond James Stadium will host Super Bowl 55. If the Bucs and Chiefs don't meet there, it's unlikely that Mahomes and Brady will face off again because Kansas City and Tampa Bay don't play in 2021 – unless of course they meet in that season's Super Bowl.

For what it's worth, Mahomes is 1-2 vs. Brady from his Patriots days. On Oct. 14, 2018, Kansas City lost 43-40 at New England, and in that season's AFC title game at Arrowhead Stadium, Brady's Pats won 37-31 in overtime. Last year, Kansas City visited New England in Week 14 and won 23-16.

Brady has three NFL MVP Awards, while Mahomes entered Week 11 as the +175 favorite at William Hill to win his second. Kansas City is the +175 favorite to win the AFC, while Tampa is a +350 second-favorite in the NFC behind division rival New Orleans (+275).

The Thanksgiving holiday is Thursday and per usual there are three games. Like every year, the Lions host the opener and welcome Houston, while the Cowboys host the mid-afternoon game and welcome Washington. Two rather blah games. The nightcap between features Baltimore at Pittsburgh, with the unbeaten Steelers opening at -3 as they look for the season sweep and a giant step toward the AFC North title and potential top seed over K.C. in the conference playoffs.

On Sunday night, the Bears come out of their bye and look to snap a four-game skid, and they may or may not have injured starting QB Nick Foles when they visit bitter rival Green Bay, which opened at -7. If not Foles, it should be back to Mitchell Trubisky, who has missed the past two with a shoulder injury.

Week 12 closes with Seattle at Philadelphia on Monday night in a potential playoff preview. They met at Lincoln Financial Field in last season's Wild-Card Round and the Seahawks won ugly 17-9. Seattle, which is on extra rest and thrives on the East Coast, opened as a 6-point favorite.

There are no teams on the bye in Week 12 due to the holiday.
